WEDNESDAY 20TH JUNE - BRANCH SOCIAL and CIDER POTY PRESENTATION – WELLINGBOROUGH – LocAle
With cider becoming prevalent in many pubs in the county now, this is the fifth year that we have made this award and the second time to the Coach and Horses. A presentation will be made tonight to John Eames for this achievement at a former East Midlands Runner-Up Pub of the Year. Meet at 20.00.
THURSDAY 28TH JUNE - WEEKLY WIND-UP – NEWPORT PAGNELL
Tonight the London based Weekly Wind-Up will be visiting the Cannon, a venue around six miles from Milton Keynes. The Cannon is a traditional family-run free house, usually serving a Banks’s ale and three guests, plus real cider too. It often has dark beers, and a mild has been requested for the visit. Transport from Milton Keynes Railway station will be by 154, a 1947 Northampton Daimler double-decker bus which will depart at 18:00 and return in time for 21:00. As is customary, a donation will be requested. With two Wetherspoon’s and the newly opened Brewhouse and Kitchen close by, this makes the train trip from Northampton worthwhile, especially with Groupsave tickets (3 or more travel at a discount). All are welcome.
FRIDAY 29TH JUNE - BRANCH BREWERY PRESENTATION AND BEER FESTIVAL – PURPLE COW – LocAle
Following the Northampton County Beer Festival judging of the county’s breweries, we are pleased to make a presentation to Purple Cow whose Holy Cow was judged best in the Porter category and Third Overall. The brewery is actually below the cellar of the Alexandra Arms, Kettering, so we can imbibe a few beers here afterwards. Meet 20.00
TUESDAY 3RD JULY - SOCIAL BREAKFAST CLUB - NORTHAMPTON - LocAle
Tony Care runs a breakfast club which for the first half of 2018, will meet every four weeks. Anyone is welcome to join for breakfast starting at 10.00 at the Cordwainer, Northampton.
WEDNESDAY 4TH JULY - BRANCH PUB OF THE SEASON AWARD – NORTHAMPTON - LocAle
A couple of branch meetings ago we voted for our Pub of the Seasons and as a result, the award for the Town Pub of the Season Spring 2018 was awarded to the St Giles Ale House, where Terry Steers has been behind the bar of this micropub since November 2016. With it being Independence Day, this is a fitting day for a presentation. Meet at 20.00
MONDAY 9TH JULY - JOHN MARGETTS MEMORIAL EVENING - NORTHAMPTON - LocAle As many of you will know, John Margetts sadly passed away in April. As a result, Terry Steers has arranged a Memorial night for John at the Market Tavern (formerly the Fish), where a barrel of one of John’s beer recipes has been brewed by the Framework Brewery of Leicester. John drove his minibus to our social events, plus took up brewing in his seventies by creating the Hunsbury Craft Brewery. Meet from 18.00.
MONDAY 9TH JULY - BRANCH OPEN MEETING and CIDER OF THE FESTIVAL AWARD – LONG BUCKBY - LocAle Unfortunately this date was booked before I had notification of John Margetts Memorial, although there is time to attend both events. We have our first branch meeting at the Badgers Arms, a micropub which opened in December 2017 where we will also make a presentation to Healy's of Winwick whose Just George was judged the Winner of the Northampton Beer Festival Cider competition. Meet at 20.00.
FRIDAY 13TH JULY - BRANCH BREWERY PRESENTATION AND BEER FESTIVAL – THRAPSTON - LocAle
Following the Northampton County Beer Festival judging of the county’s breweries, we are pleased to make a presentation to Nobby’s whose Tressler’s XXX was judged best in the Mild category. Meet at the Brewery at 19.00. If you intend going, please can you advise me so I can inform Kate and Nobby.
WEDNESDAY 18TH JULY - EAST MIDLANDS AREA PUB OF THE YEAR PRESENTATION - DAVENTRY - LocAle
Following on from the success of being presented with the Pub of the Year Award 2017, Early Doors has gone on to win the East Midlands Area competition. Caroline was the first in the county to open a micropub and has already won Pub of the Season and Cider Pub of the Year, so award ceremonies are not unheard of at this popular pub. The Area Organiser will be on hand to make the presentation at 20.00.
BRANCH BREWERY PRESENTATIONS - LocAle - VARIOUS
There are currently a few remaining presentations that we need to make for winning beers at the Northampton Beer Festival. Dates are currently being agreed, so look out for future emails on the subject.
